Reece Presentation at the Dahlonega Literary Festival 3/4/23

The Dahlonega Literary Festival will open its 18th Annual Event on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Dahlonega Baptist Church with a new participant this year. The Byron Herbert Reece Society has a reserved Table in Room number 30 in the Downstairs Section at the back of the Dahlonega Baptist Church. Byron Herbert Reece is recognized in the category of Regional Writer in a Special Events Section. Our program being presented is entitled “WHEN I’M BEYOND THE REACH OF SONG – GEORGIA’S MOUNTAIN POET LAUREATE BYRON HERBERT REECE”. You may join us in Room No. 30 at 10:00 A.M until 10:50 A.M. We will return to that same room in the afternoon and have novels and collections of poetry written by Reece available for sale.

The program will be led by Moderator and Reece Society Board Member, Ken Akins. Distinguished Speakers will include Dr. John Kay, Charter Member of the Byron Herbert Reece Society and Chairman of the Board for over 14 years, Dr. Ruth Looper, Reece Society Board Member and Professor of Literature at Young Harris College, and Mr. Justin Shook, Reece Society Member and Instructor of History and Literature in Northeast Georgia. All are are Reece Scholars and excellent speakers. Several Reece Poems will be recited and discussed briefly. Topics will include Reece’s life and works on his Appalachian Farm, themes of nature, death, love, links to Biblical Scripture, comparisons with other American authors, and the closeness of Reece’s writings to the land, the purpose and mission of the Byron Herbert Reece Society, the relevance of Reece’s works yesterday, today and in the future.

Again the Event is Dahlonega Literary Festival 2023. The entire Festival begins at 9:00 A.M. through 6:00 P.M. The address for Dahlonega Baptist Church is 234 Hawkins Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533.
